Day 1 – 18.5 miles to Vlaardingen

Got let off the ferry at 8.15am and it was straight into the hike.

From first impressions I’m liking Holland. Everyone says hello, which you usually only get out in the wilds elsewhere. And they seem to be a nation of dog lovers, which gets them a big tick.

They even do personalised route markers….

The day started with a 2 mile detour north (roundtrip) to dip my toes in Channel, before turning round and heading south.

Hiking is mostly on metalled cycle tracks so very hard on the feet.

Weather was a bit wet – light rain most of the day, which isn’t what you want on day 1. It’s now chucking down. Hopefully will clear up tomorrow..?
